Our review
You get what you pay for, and here that’s a well-built, comfortable knee pad with plenty of features

Pros:

Incredibly comfortable; well-made knee pad

Cons:

Pricey; take a while to soften in cold conditions

7iDP's Project Knee pads are expensive, but feature-packed, which I think justifies the price.

The pad, which is protected by an exterior semi-solid skid place, is highly shaped around the knee – almost in an angular U-shape. This initially feels odd when putting the pads on, but once in place, feels great – the pad really encases the side of your knee.

While there’s not the most protection real-estate, it is exactly where it needs to be. I assumed that this rigid pad might lead to some rubbing, if the shape wasn’t quite right for my knee, but this proved not to be the case, and the inner material of the sock is very comfortable.

The sock is made from a compressive knit material that’s exceptionally comfortable on all-day rides, giving a nice enclosed yet unrestricted feel. It comes with a medium-sized rear cut-out behind the knee, boosting comfort further because there’s minimal material bunching during pedalling.

It’s rock-solid in use, never shifting about, thanks to upper and lower silicone strips at the hems, as well as a unique double Velcro strap system. These two straps meet in the middle of the thigh, at the front, spreading their tension evenly around the leg.

In cold weather I’ve found the core material of the pad stiffens considerably, but it softens once some body warmth gets in there – the first five to ten minutes might not be quite as comfortable as you’re used to, though.

For a pad offering plenty of front protection, a touch extra at the sides wouldn’t go amiss too.
