Great quality protection for your knees, but these guards come at a high price

The new Grenade Pro II pads from Scott replace the original Grenade Pro pads, which were some of our favourite protectors.

These new versions have quite a bit more padding and are more bulky in their build. They also feature a newly shaped d3o pad inside, rather than the generic shape used in pretty much every other d3o pad. To top things off, there’s also some thick padding on the sides, as well as a strip up top above the d3o.

We found the additional bulk and size difference clearly noticeable, but once riding, the shape of the pad really does work well and feels super comfy, even when pedalling.

They do get pretty warm on a hot day though, without a huge amount of room for any air to flow, but even when sweaty the pad won’t slip down or twist in the case of a crash. This is partly thanks to the straps that seem to hold the pad on tight without digging into the backs of your legs.

These may seem expensive at £90, but considering it’s only a small amount more than other d3o pads, we think these are definitely worth the extra if you can afford it.
