The Renegade requires a big outlay but remains one of the best jackets available for heavy rain riding Buy if, You want the ultimate in weather protection for long wet rides

Pros:

Amazing weather protection, well made, robust

Cons:

Bulkier than some, expensive

The 7Mesh Renegade is a beast of a waterproof that's tailored using Gore Tex’s brilliant Active three-layer fabric with taped seams, a waterproof front zipper, draft flap and a soft, brushed, tall collar to keep the wet stuff out.

The wrists feature a clever elastic and zip closure with a vent and neat little tab that makes life easier.

On the rear, the drop tail does its job well with silicone keeping it in place and it features a reflective hem. There’s also a waterproof rear pocket alongside two flapped jersey access points that also act as vents.

The jacket comes with an athletic cut with enough room for layering on colder days and stuffing jersey pockets. This all makes for a classy waterproof and its weather beating performance is outstanding.

The trade-off is that it’s not as light or small packing as some top end waterproofs, such as Gore’s One or Castelli’s Idro, currently doing the rounds, and it is expensive. But on long rides in the worst weather these factors all become irrelevant. It’s that good.
