Blending form and functionality in perfect harmony, the Oxygen 2.0 shows that simplicity of style is a consistent winner

Since it’s rare we give anything top marks, you should understand that the Gore Oxygen 2.0 is quite simply outstanding. This is the result of the key elements of waterproofing, breathability and fit coming together perfectly, yet there’s still more to this fantastic jacket.

But let’s start with the fabric. Unsurprisingly (given that this is a jacket from Gore), it’s the extremely breathable Gore-Tex Active, which is designed for highly aerobic activity. The membrane itself is accompanied by a standard set for construction that demands minimal design, with any superfluous seams or detailing affecting its performance.

As you might expect then, the Oxygen 2.0 has a very clean look – no pockets, no hood – though the zipped jersey-style rear pockets and cuffs that zip closed for a slim fit suddenly make Velcro and elastic look clunky. The neck is near perfect – ergonomically cut to sit in just the right position when you’re riding and with a soft upper edge that forms a comfortable seal without making you feel all buttoned up, even when you are. It complements the soft feel that the jacket has overall.

There’s a long back hem with light gripper to keep it in place, but best of all in terms of the cut, when you move your arms, the body of the jacket stays put, with no shifting around or riding up. That slight movement is a given on most jackets, so when it doesn’t happen, it’s a revelation.
