For a mid-price jacket, Madison’s Telegraphe is impressively feature-laden. There’s a full mesh liner that protects the inside of the waterproof fabric and keeps any clamminess away from your skin, although you’re likely to wear a long-sleeved garment underneath anyway.
This jacket isn’t designed just for riding, as indicated by the front hip pockets. There’s also a hood, which can be stowed away or removed altogether. The fit is a little strange, being really roomy around the torso – good for fitting layers underneath, but a bit flappy – although the sleeves are only just long enough.
Pit zips provide quickly accessible ventilation if things get warm. We found ourselves making plenty of use of these, as the Telegraphe isn’t the most breathable jacket on the market.
It’s decently waterproof, though, so if you can stay vented you’ll stay dry. There’s not as much reflective trim as on some of the competition, but the bright orange colour option goes some way to compensate for that.
