Polaris Helix windproof review
Versatile outer layer that's good for all but wet weather riding

This is another top that Polaris has designated as multi-activity, but unlike the Ventor jacket tested in the last issue, the Helix is much more bike-oriented.
The interesting mix of windproof and roubaix fabrics bonded to a fleece inner make it a great top for when it’s cold but not wet; the Windshield fabric also claims to be water repellent, but don’t rely on it to keep out much more than a shower. The fit is spot on for the bike. The fabric is quite heavy but very flexible, allowing movement without flapping at speed, and the back is sufficiently dropped to keep your spine toasty.
The body of the top moves moisture quite well, but I found that the arms got quite sweaty on harder runs. At the front there are two pockets for off-the-bike use, and there’s one at the back too for your spare tube and phone. It’s a well thought out piece of clothing that sits comfortably between a summer windproof and a full winter jacket.
