Superb all-rounder, blending lightweight protection with streetwise looks

Sombrio’s Vapor Storm is made of a four-way stretch waterproof/breathable fabric, although, given the fairly roomy cut (despite it being described as slim), the stretchiness doesn’t have all that much to do.

The fabric has a distinctly robust feel, as you might expect from Sombrio’s freeride heritage, but that didn’t seem to hinder breathability at all. You can pull in the hem using the shock cord adjusters hidden in the hip pockets. There’s also a chest pocket with a headphone port.

A particularly large zip pull is easy to use with gloves, although there’s no storm flap. We didn’t experience any rain coming through, though. There are zipped mesh vents at the sides, but they don’t extend up under the arms.

That neatly sidesteps any issues of zips bunching as they turn the corner to the arms, but reduces the effectiveness of the vents somewhat. We’re not big fans of hoods on jackets, but the Sombrio’s is permanently attached, so you can’t leave it at home.
