The fitted Firewall soft shell lives up to its name, providing an amazingly warm thermal layer to keep you protected from the elements. Its minimal bulk, low weight and close fitting are great, and it’s by no means restrictive because it’s so stretchy.
Ergonomically shaped arms mean it feels naturally right in the riding position and a rubber gripper on the inside of the elastic hem stops the shell riding up your back and letting in draughts. The zips are sealed and the tall neck protector provides a comfy, snug fit.
There are also two small zip pockets on the rear, but these are too fiddly to get into on the move. That’s a small gripe though, particularly for a thin jacket that will keep you surprisingly snug on cold, dry days.
