Super versatile, super nice three-season vest/jacket offering protection in all weathers

The Alp-X Zip-Off might have a bit of a clumsy name, but there’s nothing clunky about it in practise. It’s been a favourite of ours since its inception and can be pulled out to deal with conditions varying from a slightly nippy early start to blowing a hoolie.

The shell fabric used on the vest section is immensely durable and breathable, as well as fully windproof, with excellent water resistance and a tiny pack size.

Zip on the stretch Windstopper arms and you immediately boost the warmth factor, turning the vest into something approaching a soft shell that will shrug off surprising amounts of rain before wetting out.

The cut is impeccable, with plenty of room in the body for warm layers, stretchy twisted sleeves that sit perfectly on the bike and offer good coverage, and the long tail and high neck essential for protection in poor weather.

The vest is lined with mesh to improve moisture transfer from skin to air, and a full width pocket gives plenty of space for odds and ends if you’re riding without a pack – although they can get muddy as the inside of the pocket is mesh to boost breathability.
