Rapha have become synonymous with quality, style and price, so it's little surprise that the decidedly elegant Fixed Shorts ring in at a cool £105.

As a regular size M (31-32in), I found them unusually roomy all round, so would recommend downsizing - good for the waistline ego, though. The material is the stretch-fit Schoeller Nanosphere with a Coolmax blend and a coating that's supposed to be water and stain resistant - over a couple of weeks of use, they've certainly stayed looking brand new. The cut is simple and traditional, with adjustable buttons at the leg openings to bring them in. There are two front pockets and two zippered rear pockets, a button waist, belt loops and a very subtle integrated pad that doesn't stick out when you're cruising round town. Overall, construction is top notch, with superb stitching and a real quality feel.
