Good value, cool top, for more casual riding

Testing for this New Zealand-made Ground Effect top coincided with something of a heatwave, and it performed very well indeed during some long rides on some very hot days.

The ‘intercool’ fabric has an inner polyester layer designed to wick sweat and a cotton outer to draw it out, and those Kiwi designers have clearly been earning their keep.

It doesn’t feel like most other cycling tops. If anything it feels more like a casual T-shirt, with a loose cut and a non-elasticated hem.

It does, though, have a three-quarter length zip and the obligatory three rear pockets, the central one larger and zipped, and containing Ground Effect’s usual emergency tube repair patch.

So, if you want a top to keep you cool but you don’t want to look too racy, you might want to check out this casual-looking Antipodean jersey. It’s available in sizes S-XL, and in two colours: Limelight (shown), and Burnt Orange.
