Gore’s Fusion SOs are the cold weather winners for those who are tights-averse

Are you welded to your softshell jacket come the colder weather? Well, the Fusion SO pant is the version for your legs. Made from Gore-Tex Windstopper it stops wind chill dead in its tracks and keeps off all but the very worst downpours. These aren’t overtrousers, you wear them alone or over a padded liner. Being softshell, there’s no crackle as you walk or ride, and you get warmth as well as weather protection, but because it wicks, we didn’t overheat.

Unzipping the generous leg vents would help further ventilate if you’re a warm bod. For anyone who hates riding in tights, the Fusions could be your salvation – the legs look like ordinary trousers, and to ride just zip the ankles closer. Again it’s a style that works for any cold weather outdoor pursuit and scuff patches at the ankles will prolong the life. We love the sheer wearability of the Fusions, so it does pain us to have one tiny niggle – there’s a whole lot of Simon Cowell highness about the waist that necessitates always wearing something over them...
