It was hard to test the Roam – with looks as stylish as these, no one wanted to wear these shorts in anger and spoil their appearance. Made from a waterproof nylon with an unusually smart herringbone design, they are one good-looking piece of kit.
A soft wicking mesh lining makes them comfortable enough to be worn alone, next to your skin. The material is relatively heavy though, and therefore hot during active or prolonged use. Also, the seams are not sealed which, along with the zips that attach the legs, is a potential weak spot for water to sneak in.
The cut and fit are both good, being on the right side of slouchy without being baggy – but with no integral waist adjustment you may need to wear a belt to get them just right for you. Best for playing in the woods, gravity riding and hanging around at events.
