Pricey, but a classic lightweight and super communicative trail or race bike that’s still right on the money

Simple, lightweight trail fun doesn’t get much better than the Superlight. At under 5.5lb the 100mm-travel frame isn’t heavy, and the long, low ride position enhances its appearance and feel as a lightweight race snake.

However, its name undersells this highly enjoyable all-rounder in terms of trail capability. Subtly shaped and twisted tubes create an impressively stiff chassis with excellent communication between bike and rider.

Stamp the pedals and it’ll lift and stiffen slightly for a firmer power delivery feel, but back off and cruise and the Fox Float R shock really smooths out the trail. The long shock stroke means the Fox feels controlled and never overworked.

The frame can handle a 120mm fork up front to give more impact control and a slacker, more stable handling character. The powder-coated frames are £100 less than the anodised ones, but neither option is cheap for a relatively simple swingarm frame.
