Avid Juicy Five review

The distinctive Power Reserve Geometry lever angle gives a massive power assist and control advantage. The 185mm rotor feels more like 200mm and begs you to leave stopping till the last second.

Our review
Weighty with some heat issues but provides exceptional power for the price

The Juicy is even cheaper this year and it's still excellent. The distinctive Power Reserve Geometry lever angle gives a massive power assist and control advantage. The 185mm rotor feels more like 200mm and begs you to leave stopping till the last second.

Despite good rotor straightness and impressive torque, the brake boiled suddenly 10 runs into the first dyno test. This isn't a problem we've encountered often on the trails though. Otherwise, set-up is the easiest here thanks to the cup and cone CPS system and split lever clamp. Matchmaker combined clamps are available for SRAM shifters too. The reliability and pad life are also excellent, and although the weight is relatively high, the new price is low.
