Hope Mono Mini Pro review
Hope has modified its standard XC brake to produce a stunningly light stopper. In fact, this is the lightest production brake available, thanks to a full 12-bolt titanium upgrade, a chunky carbon fibre lever blade and a slimmed-down version of the already light ‘standard’ floating rotor. ‘Gunsmoke’ anodising throughout and laser-etched Union flag reservoir caps complete the race psych-out package.
It’s not especially powerful, but the feel is consistently sharp and application immediate, making it perfectly adequate for race and trail work. Phenolic pistons mean it can handle long descents reasonably well without dying, too.
We reckon that most racers would rather lose the weight than worry about the lack of reach adjust without manhandling the seal and piston placement. Ditto the lighter direct IS mount arrangement as standard.
We really like the fact you can effectively upgrade this brake from the basic model yourself, or even go totally custom with the various personal engraving options (check out www.minx-girl.com for some cracking examples). Considering the ultra low weight, finishing quality and Hope’s legendary factory direct back-up, the price is more than reasonable, too.
