Magura Louise Carbon review

Magura's new Louise is a striking brake with love/hate responses from our testers. The deep U-section carbon lever blade and big body give a very solid feel with easy bite point adjustment via a dial.

The aluminium version of the Louise is the best value choice.

Our review

An eye-catching high-control brake once bedded in but not light or cheap

Magura’s new Louise is a striking brake with love/hate responses from our testers. The deep U-section carbon lever blade and big body give a very solid feel with easy bite point adjustment via a dial. Varying performance for the first month settled into a predictable and reasonably powerful pull.

The big red Ventidisc spider is designed to work as a fan to aid cooling, but the deep collar wouldn’t fit our dyno. The brake still got most of the way through the testing with a standard Magura rotor before it boiled though. 160 and 200mm rotor versions are the same price too, as is the Shimano Center Lock version. The Ventidisc adds 210g to this otherwise lightweight brake and the alu version looks better value at £129.95.
