The 600 sets of these limited edition brakes are effectively a £259 Marta SL, with the reservoir plate picked out in Magura’s signature yellow and a white hose. The magnesium master cylinder and carbon ﬁbre lever save 43g over the standard Marta brake.
The skeletal Storm rotor is light for its size too, making this 180mm version comparatively lighter than the 160mm item at 333g. Lever feel is sharp and ﬁrm, but modulation and control are consistent. Peak power is enough for most trail use.
The closed clamp on the single-sided master cylinder means you need to be careful when sliding it onto carbon bars. Bedding in the pads carefully is also essential for good wear life. Reliability is excellent and we’ve never had to call on the ﬁve-year leak proof guarantee. It’s still pricey, even though it’s cheaper than the standard version.
Also consider: Magura Marta Mag SL, £315. The lightest Magura brake gets titanium and magnesium upgrades for a sharp stopping feel at an even lower weight, but it’s the most expensive brake you can buy. There’s an all-new Magura cross-country brake due soon.
