Despite being light for a 140mm unit, the XMM’s chassis with sculpted direct brake mounts, hollow crown and two-piece hollow fork brace on the rear is outstandingly stiff.While the ratchet action of the RWS axle wasn’t popular with all the testers it is the lightest 15mm axle by 10g.
The Twin Shot damping is designed to give a tighter ‘sport’ feel to the top of the stroke, and it takes more than light chatter to get the auto balanced air spring moving. While it’s smooth, the linear stroke and buoyant damping need tuning time to find a happy, consistently-controlled ride height balance.
The thin adjuster dials are awkward to turn, but get it right and the structural stiffness makes it a precise fork to push the pace with, and there’s an optional remote lockout. It’s still riding like new after eight months hard labour with just an occasional hose/ wipe down.
