An amazing fork for a specific job but get ready to empty your wallet

The new 831 is super-light at only 1.7kg (3.75lb), and that makes a huge difference compared to most four-cross or dirt jump forks when plugged into the bike.

The weight, combined with the 15mm through-axle, gives the lightning-fast steering that’s essential when out on the four-cross track. The plush FIT RLC damper cartridge is super-sensitive and deals with small bumps very effectively.

Although it comes with 100mm (3.9in) of travel as standard, depending on the track or trails, the 831 can be internally adjusted to give you anything between 80mm (3.1in) and 120mm (4.7in) of air-sprung travel, so it’s highly versatile.

The external rebound and compression adjustments cover a great range but it’s the big hits where this featherweight excels. The specific high speed compression valving developed for the 831 doesn’t disappoint either.

Overshoot a landing or slam into some rough braking bumps and the 831 will handle it in a controlled, predictable fashion with no hint of clunking bottom-out or stifling.

So, what are the downsides? The 831 isn’t cheap, and the 15mm through-axle won’t please everyone and although lighter, isn’t quite as stiff as the 20mm alternative.
