Fox 36 Float R review

The lightweight 36 air forks used to be less lively than the coil Vans, but that's all changed with the 07 Floats.

Low on features but very light and very stiff trail/freeride fork

The lightweight 36 air forks used to be less lively than the coil Vans, but that's all changed with the 07 Floats.

Stiction issues have totally gone on all the forks we've tried, with good small bump cushioning and traction from new, so it works all over the hill, climbing or cornering. The weight is outstandingly low for the superb steering stiffness and it's short for its travel too, so it'll fit 6in (150mm) travel bikes no problem.

The stroke is only rebound adjustable, but there are no spikes, cavities or inconsistencies, whatever the shaft speed/impact size. Add phenomenal stiffness from the 36mm stanchions and burly bolted lowers and you can throw it off or down anything without thinking. Post disc mounts and a QR axle would speed up fitting and fettling though, and it's not that cheap.
