Fox F100X review

You'll have to really like the Fox F100's X factor to cough up. Based on a lightweight version of Fox's extremely well proven F100 chassis it's a naturally smooth performer that's not afraid to front down fairly big trails.

Expensive, but an impressive mix of auto lockout and performance.

You'll have to really like the Fox F100's X factor to cough up. Based on a lightweight version of Fox's extremely well proven F100 chassis it's a naturally smooth performer that's not afraid to front down fairly big trails.

What you're really paying for though is the Terra Logic 'X' auto lockout system. This uses a 'Brass Mass' inertia switch which gets knocked upwards by impacts, opening the compression damping circuit and letting the fork move as normal. When the ground smooths out, the brass mass settles and it all locks out again. The 'platform' is completely tuneable from barely noticeable to 'big stuff only' via the Pro Tune knob. There's some knock, and very occasionally the first hit catches it out enough to jolt, but mostly it's a great system for thought-free racing use.

Stout 32mm legs means it steers well enough despite a scooped out brace and weight is XC race friendly if not superlight. The little bolt on hose guide is a neat touch and you can drop travel to 80mm with an internal spacer if needed. The Terra Logic technology costs though at over £600, yet the F100 RLC option gives conventional rebound, compression and adjustable threshold level for (the still hefty) £569.
