Manitou Travis

Our review

Smooth and cheap, but soft, heavy and with very little meaningful adjustment

It might be cheap, but long-term use proves it’s not all cheerful for Manitou’s Travis fork.

At £399, Travis is the cheapest 160mm (6.3in) fork here and on paper the TPC rebound and compression damping is all you need. Unfortunately the compression effect is barely noticeable so the soft spring is prone to diving. It binned a couple of our test riders really hard too.

The rebound works better – until the knob fell off. Add the fact it’s very heavy, the axle is bolted rather than quick-release and when we went to send it to photography it was lying in a pool of its own oil, and we have to be hard on the scoring whatever the price.
