Pace’s ultra light, ultra stiff 5in trail fork is a stunning ride. The evolved ‘Launch Control 2’ lock down gets a spanky looking new adjuster and better sealing to stop crap from wedging it open, and the bump sensing auto release threshold is finger adjustable, too. Otherwise, it’s the same super rigid hollow carbon fibre structure and machined alloy structure giving 5in travel at race fork weight.
The remarkably smooth single chamber air spring, with separate rebound and compression damping circuits, gives a sublimely floated ride, too. You need to watch for shrubs moving the new look rebound adjuster though, and take care that you don’t move the compression adjustment outside its working range either, or it gets upset. Inconsistent build quality and reliability are also a slight concern, although Pace’s customer service is excellent, and it’s a phenomenal fork when it’s working 100 per cent. The 50g heavier ‘Fighter’ 150mm travel version is £539, while a 20mm bolt through version of both forks will also be available soon.
