Society has successfully targeted the cheaper end of the street, park and dirt jump market with the Xeno fork, so now it’s hitting the four cross market with the 4XR. At 2.7kg, it’s 230g heavier than the Xeno, switching out air suspension for coil sprung plushness.
The lowers have also been beefed up, and they combine with the 20mm axle to give pinpoint high speed steering accuracy. They also boast a rebound adjuster and a compression adjuster, which is indexed from its minimum all the way through to virtually locked out.
That means the 4XR runs just 80mm (3.14in) travel – good news for most new school riders wanting minimal travel. However, it’s just as long as a 100mm fork, axle to crown.
The coil spring mechanism delivers a plush stroke picking up on the small stuff, but it’s still able to take the harder hits.
It’s good to see Society fitting it with firm springs as standard, but if dirt jumping is your main game then you may want something a little harder still. The fork has some smart touches such as post mounts for your brakes, and it has grease ports and adapters to take a standard quick release axle.
