It’s all too easy to bend a chainring on a rock, so using a double chainring and a bashguard is the usual solution.
For the triple ring folk, MRP have developed this simple bashguard that allows full use of three chainrings, and acts as a skid plate underneath to help you slide over rocks and logs.
The skid plate is mounted to a simple plate that comes in ISCG mount, or regular for fitting via the drive-side bottom bracket cup, and it comes in gold or black.
It’s a fit-and-forget affair that weighs only 120g, making it one of those products that makes you wonder why the hell you never had one before.

Manufacturer's Description | The XCG Series of guards are designed to protect chainrings and cranks from damage due to the occasional rock or log encounter. They consist of a replaceable polycarbonate Skid direct-mounted to a 4mm thick alloy back plate. With an XCG Triple -you can keep the big chainring on and not worry about damaging it on obstacles. The XCG Triple is lightweight, and costs a lot less than replacing a high quality 44T ring, so it's a great accessory for the fast and technically aggressive XC rider or for any rider looking to protect their investment. It also has an upper chain-saver section to prevent the chain from falling off towards the inside. |
