Campagnolo Ultra Torque Chainset review
Campy's latest continues to meld art with engineering
GBP £109.99 RRP | USD $338.11 Skip to view deals
Campagnolo have finally dropped the venerable square tapered axle design in favour of this splined interface crankset that is similar to the acclaimed but rarely seen Sweet Components design of 1993.
This is a non-series related product, so it’s essentially the same from the lower level Veloce series right through to their flagship Record group.
It is available in either compact 34/50t or non-compact double with 39/53 chainrings. The aluminium cranks are moulded directly to a hollow axle that is separated in the middle by a single concealed 10mm headed Allen bolt, holding the splined ends of the axle together.
There is a complete absence of flex in use and Campagnolo should be commended for a standard of engineering design here beyond what we would normally expect from a mainstream bicycle component manufacturer. There is also a 9-speed version and all cranks are available in Race-black or Comp-silver finishes.
