Middleburn has been quietly turning out beautifully sculpted cranks for well over a decade, and revisiting its retro cranks proves they're still better than most.

The interchangeable splined spiders come in four or five arm triple, dedicated double, single or singlespeed uno designs, in a wide range of anodized colours. RS8 is 25g lighter but with only an XC warranty. The standard Slickshift chainrings are smooth and long lasting. They also come in a square taper version compatible with BBs like Shimano's long lived UN-72 or Royce Ti axled exotica (£115). They're a bit harder to fit and more flexy than external units but they last far, far longer.
