Shimano Hone Double Chainset review

Hone is basically a beefed up 'All Mountain' version of LX, making it a great option for aggressive riders on a budget. The Hollowtech II forged crankarms are the same super stiff and sturdy piece as LX, but with steel pedal thread plugs and integrated axle to handle extra stress from big landings.

A superb tough, great value nugget - if you don't need taller gears.

The whole crank (even in triple form) is still within a gram or two of all alloy LX. The double version comes with a steel inner ring and tough, broad polycarbonate bash guard which work great. But the 32 tooth middle ring leaves it slightly short on speed for more open trails and a bigger ring will need a bigger bashguard.

That's the only downer, though, as the steel axle seems to prolong external BB life slightly especially if you get your BB faced properly.
