This overlooked old-skool crankset from Truvativ is still a great all-rounder option for hardcore single ring use.
The relatively skinny, cold forged, scoop-backed arms and single-ring specific spider are formed in one piece rather than using a spline and bolt connection like more recent SRAM cranks. The 36 or 38t rings don’t get SRAM’s revolutionary X-Sync teeth, and there’s no BB30 option either. This was Steve Peat’s 2009 race crankset though – and it’s even survived several months on our crank-killing Nicolai tandem of doom.
It has steel pedal inserts and comes in an 83mm wide DH axle version. It’s light enough for trail use, particularly if you pay extra to add X-Sync chainrings (like we did), and bottom bracket adaptors are available too.
