The Descendant cranks have been ridden to umpteen World Cup podiums and wins by teams running SRAM setups, so they’ve been given a hammering before even being made available to the public. The inner fashionista in us can’t help but notice that they look great too.
This high-end, alloy crankset weighs 750g (with threaded bottom bracket, no chainring, 68/73mm bottom bracket) and has a single-ring only spider, although it’s still compatibile with a bashguard. Fitting is a doddle; you only need one 8mm Allen key to get the cranks on and off.
After a season of testing and removals, the interface is still solid and hasn’t developed any play. The axle is attached to the driveside crank too, which makes chainguide setup a dream. On the bike, the Descendants are noticeably stiff and throughout all the abuse we’ve given them, they’ve remained solid and dependable.
We’ve run them on both normal threaded and press-fit bottom brackets, which have lasted incredibly well too, probably thanks to the updated GXP2 sealing, which also means they spin with virtually no resistance. In fact, we’re still on the original bottom bracket after a serious amount of riding (more than 200 hours across the UK and Europe).
