Wide, stiff and strong – a great downhill bar or new-school cross-country wideboy

Spank’s new Spike range has its eyes firmly set on the all-mountain arena. The 777 bar is a whopping 777mm (30.6in) wide, tips the scales at 350g, has eight-degree backsweep and four-degree upsweep dimensions, and either 30 or 50mm rise.

We tested the 30mm rise version and found it equally at home on a downhill bike as on a cross-country rig. The tubing is taper butted from the centre to the ends and is flex free, despite all that extra leverage.

The profile is a lot straighter than most bars, so not ideal for small riders, but the low rise and mega width gives a racey feel.
