Great British engineering at its finest and at a reasonable price...

Is this the prettiest direct-mount stem currently available? Quite possibly. But there’s a lot to like about Persist Components’ new Triumph beyond its good looks.

It’ll bolt directly onto your RockShox Boxxer fork, newer Fox 40s and Manitou Dorados’ top crown. It’s CNC machined from a single lump of 6061 T6 alloy, which makes it stiffer than the average British upper lip, and the bolts are pleasingly gold-coloured titanium numbers. It’s got 50mm of reach and zero rise, keeping your front end slammed.

At 155g, the Triumph isn’t the lightest stem out there, but it’s still slender. On the bike, the feel is as you’d expect – ultra-stiff. The only problem we encountered was that the bolts are pretty snug on the average Allen key and if you’re not careful, they can be easily rounded out.

Take your time when fitting though and you’ve got an amazing-looking and performing stem for not a lot of money.
