Light, stiff and strong – a cross-country bar’s best friend

Race Face’s new Deus SL stem is aimed at the light-and-fast brigade. It’s hewn from a lump of aerospace grade 7050 aluminum and forged into a square-section lump.

It’s stiff enough to partner oversize bars effectively while sticking at a svelte 135g (for the 100mm size) on the scales thanks to its titanium hardware.

A four-bolt face plate works to spread the load and the steerer clamp is a sensible 38mm high. The reversible six-degree rise comes in lengths from 70mm to 130mm, covering pretty much every cockpit setup.

We weren’t too keen on the protruding clamp bolts though, which scalped two kneecaps thanks to rider error. Ouch.
