Smica have been quietly turning out their impressively light and top value stems for a while – ones like this in fact.
The forged design is very neat with nice detailing such as diagonal rear slot and increased wall thickness around the bolt receivers, plus two separate clamping bands rather than a single front plate.
It has a more tapered (though still stepped) transition from steerer clamp to shaft than many similar stems yet it’s still one of the lightest here.
We’ve used various examples for years too, and while they flex noticeably we’ve never had fracture or failure problems even when hammering them. The logo is grey rather than the old light blue so that should suit a lot more bikes as well.
