The Warhead offers good value and smart features

The Warhead headset from Nukeproof is available in various sizes to fit different head tubes. We tested the 44IETS version, which allows a tapered fork in a 44mm head tube with an external lower cup. The Warhead is made from CNC-machined aluminium, is hard anodised in black, and features simple laser-etched graphics.

The sealed angular contact bearings run smoothly, and to date have withstood nature's finest grinding paste (grit, grime, mud and gloop) partly thanks to its effective seals. A nice touch we particularly like is the split crown race - it makes fitting really easy. It's surprisingly light for a tough no-nonsense headset too - it weights just 139g. The price is competitive with similar headsets too.

Since installing it, we've had no problems with it - there's been no rattling loose and we haven't suffered from rough feeling bearings either. We'll be riding the headset indefinitely so will keep you posted a few months down the line when it's suffered the entire gloop-fest that is the British winter.
