Exustar E-PR77 dual-sided pedals review

Double-sided pedals aren't usually this imaginative or well executed. One side is a Look Arc compatible design and the reverse is road SPD compatible, and at a surprising 266g they're lighter than some single-sided designs.

Light and imaginatively designed pedals

Double-sided pedals aren't usually this imaginative or well executed. One side is a Look Arc compatible design and the reverse is road SPD compatible, and at a surprising 266g they're lighter than some single-sided designs.

Given that most pedals are either painted or polished, I was surprised to find a hard-wearing, nickel-plated body that will co-ordinate with any colour scheme and keep its looks. Quality isn't merely skin deep either; chromoly axles are hardly exotic but they are very durable, and when paired with super-smooth, well sealed needle roller bearings, they make for a very serviceable and long-lived pedal.

Performance is excellent, spring tensions are easily adjusted using an Allen key, ensuring snappy entry and exit in either pedal mode, and while pattern cleats for both are thoughtfully provided, compatibility with both Look and Shimano is excellent, meaning you'll never leave home with the wrong shoes.

The broader design and degree of float offered by the cleats make for excellent all-day comfort, and tested on my fixer, failing to locate the cleat at busy junctions was less crucial because the larger body makes for a secure platform in stop-start situations.
