At just 290g, Raleigh’s RSP For The Win flat pedals are some of the lightest on the market, and the slim (12.5mm) platform maximises ground clearance too. The lack of concave shaping does mean they’re not the grippiest option out there though.
In fact, the centre of the platform actually sits proud of the outer edge, meaning your foot isn’t naturally cupped when standing on the pedal.
The eight pins per side – all of which neatly screw through the rear of the platform – do a reasonable job of clawing on to your shoes’ soles, but at just 3.5mm high, once as you add mud to the equation, grip becomes pretty vague quite quickly. We certainly think longer pins could help here.
Widthwise the RSPs aren’t too bad, with 90mm of usable platform to stand on, which is just about enough for all but the biggest feet out there.
