Well made and well thought out saddle with an instantly comfy shape

Prologo offer their range of saddles in a host of shapes and sizes. The Scratch is part of the ‘round’ series, and has a gently sculpted shape across the hips.

We got on well with it. The shape gave a comfortable and firm position without making us feel like we were squidged into an old, slightly cannibalistic sofa.

The X14 bit of the name refers to the sort of bike that Prologo reckon this perch suits best – namely 140mm (or so) all-mountain bikes. White can be a hard-to-maintain colour for a saddle cover, but this has proved durable and easy to clean, and the amount of padding, complete with central cutaway, is spot on.

We like the idea of the raised grippers on the side of the saddle’s just-so width nose, there to improve grip for those who like to squeeze their knees for extra security, but we didn’t find any massively noticeable effect. Still, it doesn’t hinder at all either.

With a carbon-injected base and titanium alloy rails, it weighs a reasonable 258g, though it’s possible to find similarly-padded saddles at the same weight for less money. But it’s hard to put a price on comfort and in this case, our tester was an instant fan.
