The Joplin is derived from the Maverick Speedball dropper post, and over years of evolution it’s getting better. It still needs lots of TLC though, and a possible unofﬁcial upgrade, to get the best from it. The hydraulically adjusted travel lets you choose the ride height and it’s a very smooth stroke when new.
The new double bushing design works a lot better for a lot longer than before, so slop and play is much less of an issue. The seals are okay but we know several riders who have ﬁtted the seal from a Fox Float rear shock, which extends strip-down and service intervals signiﬁcantly.The joystick handlebar remote is the best cable-operated piece on test by far as you can push or pull it in any direction to release the post.
We’ve had clearance issues between the lever and the base of some saddles though, and the cable needs to be kept clean. Smooth actuation depends on the post not being too sticky to move too. It’s light and well priced and comes with a two-year warranty.
