The Genetic Slider seatpost is moulded from one piece of carbon fibre. The thin-walled, L-shaped design is hollow and very light at 216g. A slot in the carbon top accepts the mounting bolts for the alloy cradle, and the seatpost is finished with a smart marbled outer layer.
Its longitudinal slot allows 12mm to 30mm of offset, a graduated scale showing +15- to -15-degree angles. Available in 27.2, 30.9 and 31.6mm diameters (tested), the 350mm long post should fit most bikes.
The forward inline seat clamp bolt is in a deep channel, and you need a long 5mm Allen key to adjust it. Fitting a saddle is fairly straightforward, but setting setback while keeping the saddle level proved a little fiddly, as when the bolts are loosened everything can move at once.
Our preferred 8cm setback only needed 18mm of offset, meaning the Genetic has potential to cope with long-limbed riders or those with a steep seat tube looking for a more rearwards position. With the minimum 100mm inserted, there was still 250mm of usable height, so it could also suit a rider who prefers a smaller frame size.
Swapping our aluminium post for the Genetic improved comfort dramatically through vibration absorption, and bigger hits were damped effectively.
