Our review
Excellent execution of simple design but lacks the comfort of carbon

Thomson have used a simple design to produce their Masterpiece. Does it live up to the name? Well, stainless steel bolts turn smoothly on brass washers to ensure that the forged top clamp is held securely, and tilt adjustment feels extremely smooth.

The machined shaft has thicker walls at the more heavily stressed front and rear faces, and is kinked near the top to provide 22mm of layback – although an inline version is available too.

Once adjusted, the Masterpiece does smooth out road buzz from normal tarmac better than most other aluminium posts, but rougher roads still batter your bottom. This is especially noticeable on longer rides.
