Hutchinson Piranha Air Light 2.3 review

The Air Light's full carcass size, massive shoulder tread and anti-snakebite reinforcement make it relatively heavy, but the flat centre tread means it rolls fast once moving. It tends to smear and slide rather than bite, though, and straight-line grip is sketchy in the wet.

Easy rolling, hard-cornering toughie but with unpredictable grip

The Air Light's full carcass size, massive shoulder tread and anti-snakebite reinforcement make it relatively heavy, but the flat centre tread means it rolls fast once moving. It tends to smear and slide rather than bite, though, and straight-line grip is sketchy in the wet.

>The lift from flat centre to massive, almost continuous edge lugs means it tramlines straight on unless you push hard. Once over, you can rail round, but push too far and it snaps out. The tyre feels slightly remote and wooden too, although impact protection is noticeable running lower pressures on rocky sections. The 2in version (£29.99) makes for a less extreme choice.
