High Rollers from Maxxis aren't specific winter tyres, but they're one of the grippiest all rounders available whatever the trail conditions. The tread is divided into ramped centre knobs and a rank of angled side knobs.
Despite the obvious division and a definite 'moment' between upright and cranked over, these are outrageously confidence inspiring. They paddled happily through 'Slurry Alley' then tractored up and carved down 'Wet Wood' with barely a slip, except when they clogged a couple of times. They even stuck like glue to the most evil, greasy sections of 'Rocky Horror', letting us ride it like it was bone dry. Even when they slip it's a nice controllable, drama-free drift. There's enough stability and strength in the single ply sidewall to run it at low pressures for Hoovering up even more traction, while the double ply DH versions are stupidly stout if you're hardcore, and prices for all versions are crazy cheap.
