Maxxis Medusa 2.1in

Our review

Great value, top performing wet conditions race tyre that'll run okay all winter

We’d not heard of the Medusa before MMA raved about ripping up the laps at the muddy Bontrager Twentyfour12 enduro race, but now we’re fans.

The tread pattern couldn’t be simpler – loads of wide-spaced, short but sharp-edged knobs that grip like a football boot in grassy, sloppy or boggy conditions but spit out heavy mud in seconds.

The rounded carcass makes it easy to lean into corners; it slides on hard surfaces but it’s much more controllable than wobbling round on top of a tall, square-profile spiked tyre.

It’s also surprisingly fast, and although the 2.1in version is a comfortable choice for trail work, the 1.8in is a fantastic, minimal weight, max-control, zero-clog race choice.
