At just under 800g, the Trail Boss Light is definitely more of a midweight and it accelerates accordingly. It's not noticeably lagging, but it doesn't exactly leap off down the trail either.

The 60a compound tread is relatively tall and small but closely spaced enough to roll quickly and quietly on hard surfaces. The rounded carcass tips into corners really easily where there’s a continuous shoulder of softer 50a knobs to lean on.
The TCS carcass seals very easily and moulds to the trails very well with particularly consistent control over random roots and rocks. While it will clog if conditions get really sticky it sinks its teeth into loose and/or loamy trails particularly well and we’re always surprised how hard we end up pushing the Trail Boss when we’re out riding.
This is where the Trail Boss Tough versions in either the same ‘Fast Rolling’ or ultra sticky 40a ‘Gravity DNA’ compound ‘High Grip’ versions might sound more suitable. Still, at over 1100g even in the 2.25in version and with a noticeably more wooden and less compliant feel, they’re only suited to real animals straightlining the roughest trails or race tracks.
