Our review
They're weighty and our sample was creaky, but potentially a tough rim on fast-reacting hubs

The Excite-R wheel from Halo has been around for a while, but a significant boost now comes from an upgrade to the new Spin Doctor Pro hub.

The three-pawl/30-tooth drive ring behind the tough steel freehub gives almost immediate pick-up between freewheeling and pedalling.

The 32 double-butted spokes thread into stainless eyelets in the tall ‘semi aero’ rim-brake-compatible hoops that are impressively stiff and drop-proof too.

Tyres over 2.3in start to feel wobbly on the 23mm width though, so go for Halo's Freedom Disc wheels if you want to use fat rubber.

The front Spin Doctor hub comes ready for quick-release use with supplied push-it 20mm adaptors, and spacers for 15mm axles are available separately.

Slack lacing on our sample made them creaky and slightly spongy, so be prepared to get your spoke key out.

Weight is relatively high too, but if you’re a big or aggressive rider who wants strong, quick-reacting wheels these are well worth a look.
