The ST's a new wheel for 2009 but all the major components (machined rim, alloy spoke and big slotted hubs) are largely unchanged from 2008's CrossMax.
New sockets on the hubs do seem to have stopped the spokes unhooking when ripping through corners, which is a big bonus.
They’re slightly wider spaced to add stiffness, and are very accurate given their low weight. Once the slow reacting steel freehub engages, they accelerate well too.
The rims are tubeless (valves are supplied) but at only 23mm they undermine tyres bigger than 2.2in. The front bearings on our set regularly loosened from the start – disappointing on such an expensive wheelset.
