Low on agility but a sturdy surefooted wheel that’s a great long-term investment

These Shimano Ultegra-based wheels from componentry offshoot PRO are a solid and very reliable aero upgrade for a good price.

The 24 Sapim bladed spokes front and rear are cross-laced into the base of a stiff sided, cross-woven top layer 12k monocoque rim. That means they are both stiff to start with and easily retuned if they do wander out of line.

Add the well-proven Shimano Ultegra 6600 hubs with user-serviceable bearings and the PROs are certainly built to last. They’re relatively weighty, so they take a while to wind up on the road. But once rolling, they’re stiff and reassuringly accurate with a surefooted on-road feel in gusty conditions.

You get the excellent Ultegra skewers and padded wheelbags included in the already good price too. Like most wheels at this price, the heavy rim cuts turning agility, so look well ahead for potholes.
