SRAM’s ROAM 60s use carbon rims with an asymmetric profile and 30mm internal width. The 24 double-butted, straight-pull, bladed spokes (front and back) are laced two-cross to SRAM’s own hubs. Their ‘Double Time’ freehub gives rapid 6.9-degree engagement.
The hookless rims come pre-taped, with a valve kit included. Setting them up tubeless was a pain-free process with a variety of different tyres.
Even under hard cornering loads, I’m yet to burp and lose pressure. And that broad width helps add support and volume to tyres, which is a real plus if you like riding hard.
Under power, the ROAM 60s are eager to accelerate and, despite some grotty test conditions, the freehub is yet to slip or grow sloppy. Through rough, rocky or rooty sections, things don’t feel harsh and they don’t transmit too much unnecessary feedback.
They’re still stiff enough for spur-of-the-moment line changes though, and remain pinpoint accurate through high-load turns.
While spoke tension remains fairly even, I have managed to twist two of the spokes at the rear — something that’s easily rectified with a spoke key. My rims remain problem free and totally true.
At 1,680g for the pair (with tape and valves), the wheels are a good weight considering their stiffness, though the price will still be too high for many.
